Indulge in a wholesome and naturally sweetened dessert with these baked apples. By combining crisp Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples with a hearty mixture of rolled oats, crunchy walnuts, and aromatic cinnamon, this recipe creates a satisfying treat that relies entirely on fruit sugars. It is the perfect comfort food for any occasion, offering a moist, cobbler-like interior that supports a healthy lifestyle without compromising on sophisticated, nostalgic flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

4 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1.5 teaspoons ground Ceylon cinnamon
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup water

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
Slice the top inch off each apple and scoop out the core, leaving a half-inch base at the bottom.
Combine the rolled oats, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium mixing bowl.
Stuff the apple cavities tightly with the dry oat mixture.
Place the stuffed apples upright in a small baking dish.
Pour the water into the bottom of the dish.
Bake for 35 minutes until the apples are tender but hold their shape.

Notes

Use firm, tart apple varieties to ensure they maintain their structure during the baking process. If you prefer a softer texture, you can cover the dish with foil for the first 20 minutes of baking.
